California’s recent history of horror-laced wildfires holds lessons on America’s future.
That state’s left-minded leadership has relentlessly pitched man-made climate disruption as the cause. Honest boots on the ground note unfunded infrastructure, careless construction in high-risk areas, and evaded forest management as the real deal.
California’s broader enthusiasm for “fly-now-pay-later†governance has become the model for public policy wherever the liberal collective is in charge.
Their frivolity comes at a price.
Truth and consequences
In a world prone to darkness, America has long-stood as a not-always-perfect-but-irreplaceable beacon of light.
Progressive apologists doubting those credentials need simply check the sacrifices people make to steal their way through our evaporating boundaries. There’s a reason Cuba and other left-managed paradises don’t sweat border vigilance.
Today’s America has made a choice and placed a political movement in charge that relentlessly relies on the promise of something for nothing to secure its power base. The longer-term impact of this deceptive practice insures an inevitable consequence – hostile dependency.
Please don’t clue them in, but those so doing are ignoring a grounding psychological construct – dependent beings unfailingly are disappointed in, and turn on, their handlers.
America’s here-to-fore more authentic track record of uplifting its huddled masses anchors in three words – liberty, opportunity and responsibility. It is folly to believe we can step over that last one and maintain our trajectory.
Examples abound.
Robbing our off-spring
Democrats in Congress and the White House just secured the largest debt-funded political slush fund in America’s history. Nestled behind inflated claims of COVID-19 necessity is a phenomenal two-trillion-dollar political war chest mostly earmarked to that party’s special interests.
What’s really being bailed out is the left’s false notion that living beyond one’s means is a sustainable agenda. At their hands, America’s promise is being transformed into America’s pretense.
For a visual of just how much two-trillion dollars is, picture a stack of one-dollar bills reaching 130,000 miles into the sky. That these dollars are effectively a mortgage dumped on future generations should shame baby-boomers contrastingly inheriting unprecedented privilege.
Further examples of liberal accountability-avoidance are legion.
Guile isn’t generous
Both of America’s political parties have been amazingly short-sighted in spending precious defense dollars on never-ending foreign entanglements carelessly linked to nation building fantasies.
Simultaneously, China Inc. has been busily investing in tomorrow’s anticipated conflagration with an unblinking dedication to the dreams of one nation – theirs.
For decades we’ve been ramping up support for a liberally-infused college education system through another 130,000 miles of student debt burden. The left’s predictable answer to that misguided investment is to forgive today’s obligations by transferring then to tomorrow’s students.
Then comes an endless parade of institutional bailouts, deficit spending as permanent public policy, chronically underfunded local and state government pension programs, and helping services overwhelmed by unrestricted illegal immigration and others leaping into our social safety net.
All of these boondoggles trace to naïve or predatory public policy coming out of leaders who have forgotten the virtue found in restraint.
The merrymaking always ends
For another front-row seat on the break-down in our society’s responsibility equation, witness the left’s explicit support for an out-of-control drug culture.
Those who aren’t busy partying down would do well to listen to first-responders overwhelmed by the impacts of that endorsement. Ask those who colluded to sell our community hospital to a notorious group of healthcare robber-barons why we use high-dollar medical-surgical units to provide timeout for the chemically infused? Ask our teachers about the impact on their students, social workers about the impact on child-abuse, and police officers about the impact on murder stats.
In one fashion or another, addicts always become predators who, in turn, create more victims.
An accountability avoidance review would not be complete without addressing the assemblage of unfunded entitlement programs also being uploaded on future generations. The dollars involved are so vast as to wallpaper the moon.
Per this generation’s self-service, those inconvenient new lives we haven’t managed to intercept with the 65-million abortions since Roe v. Wade are thus assured a burdened future.
Normal is good — abnormal isn’t
Mankind has always had an enthusiasm for turning light into darkness. To be an exception you have to work to be normal in an abnormal world.
There is a reckoning ahead for the malevolent mischief of the left and those who have passively embraced this progressive downgrading of our society. Unfortunately, like in California, the resulting firestorm on our horizon will consume the innocent as surely as the guilty.
America was built on a dedication to merit. We are pretending to sustain our blessings through an infatuation with entitlement. Our self-correcting world is about to teach us the folly in that vanity....
