WASHINGTON, D.C. —The Trump administration reportedly chose Asheville, N.C., to host a G20 finance meeting to spotlight the region’s recovery and resilience after Hurricane Helene.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he announced the location choice to highlight Western North Carolina as it continues to rebuild. 

Details about the event and its selection of Asheville to meet include the following:

• Hurricane recovery: Federal officials wanted to bring international attention to the area’s ongoing revitalization.

• Convenient location: Officials noted that the historic city is situated roughly midway between Washington, D.C., and Miami, Fla.

• Economic hub: The Treasury Department described the city as a growing center for local entrepreneurs and innovation.

• Location: The high-level economic forum took place at the historic Omni Grove Park Inn.
