HCA unveils plan to demolish St. Joseph’s campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville
Saturday, 11 January 2025 12:22

From Staff Report

HCA Healthcare has confirmed plans to demolish the St. Joseph’s campus of HCA-owned, for-profit Mission Hospital.

The St. Joseph campus is directly across Biltmore Avenue from the main Mission campus. Mission Hospital is based in Asheville.

“Given current building codes and the deterioration of the facility exacerbated by the storm, the only real option for that campus is its eventual demolition,” Mission Health spokeswoman Nancy Lindell said in a written statement released to the news media on Dec 26. “Plans will be made for demolition and future use of the site when appropriate.”

In November, Mission Hospital announced that it would not be reopening Asheville Specialty Hospital, which was located on the St. Joseph’s campus.

The decision followed a pause in operations due to the impact of Hurricane Helene.

In the News 13 Comment Bubble appearing after its story was the following:

• NoApologies — “Probably a new homeless shelter going in.”
