WOODFIN, N.C. — State officials “recommend putting the Craggy Correctional Center property in Woodfin up for sale on the open market, a move that would rule out transferring the site to Buncombe County,” Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on June 5.
“This comes one day after News 13 confirmed that county leaders were eyeing the prison as a potential site to ease overcrowding at the Buncombe County Detention Facility,” the TV station stated.
Further, News 13 reported, “The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction will recommend that the Craggy properties be sold to the highest bidder after they are declared surplus, NCDAC Communications Director Keith Acree confirmed. The decision comes after Acree confirmed that Buncombe County staff had been talking with NCDAC staff about acquiring Craggy as a potential site tied to detention center needs.”
