First Lady Jill Biden (wife of U.S. President Joe Biden) visited Asheville on Oct. 25 to meet with community members and volunteers in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene.

Biden, escorted by Governor Roy Cooper, reportedly were welcomed to World Central Kitchen’s operations in downtown Asheville “to share where WCK has been feeding residents impacted by Hurricane Helene. 

“Together with WCK Founder, Chef José Andrés, Dr. Biden volunteered at WCK’s Relief Kitchen at Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ and at Ben’s Tune Up, WCK’s walk-up meal, fruit, and water distribution site and met with WCK’s Chef Jamie McDonald, member of WCK’s Relief Team and co-owner of Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ,” a news release stated.

Helene ravaged Western North Carolina, resulting in more than 100 people deaths in the state and destroying large swaths of towns.
