EDITOR’S NOTE: Tlhe following statement — regarding Kim Roney being rotated off the city Public Safety Committee —was emailed by Roney, a member of Asheville City Council, to the Daily Planet early Dec. 19 in response to a request from the newspaper for her side of the story to include in this edition.

“I'm vigilantly committed to prioritizing our budgets and policies to ensure quality, equitable service outcomes.
“I've heard a spectrum of comments from people concerned that what we're doing to address public safety isn't working.
“I've been calling for budget priorities to address root causes of crime, advocating for living wages to recruit and retain staff, and pushing for the City to invest in data-informed solutions to ensure we're sending the right responder with the right tools and training for the task at hand.
“Business as usual action will get business as usual outcomes, which is fiscally and morally irresponsible, especially since we're anticipating another budget surplus while we have serious public safety issues in our community that aren't getting met.â€
With concern,
KIM (RONEY)
