GREENVILLE, S.C. — Elvis Costello & The Imposters will perform at 7:30 p.m. July 7 in the Concert Hall at the Peace Center at 300 S. Main St., here.
Regarding Costello, a promotion stated that he has “one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most recognizable names...”
The Grammy Award-winning composer will bring more than 50 years of pop, punk and pub rock hits to the concert.
As for the significance of Costello’s music, Rolling Stone magazine wrote that Costello “reinvigorated the literate, lyrical traditions of Bob Dylan and Van Morrison with the raw energy and sass that were principal ethics of punk,” noting the “construction of his songs, which set densely layered wordplay in an ever-expanding repertoire of styles.”
Wikipedia added, “Costello has written more than a dozen songs with Paul McCartney and had a long-running songwriting partnership with Burt Bacharach.”
In 2003, Costello was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2016, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
