GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Singer Gladys Knight — billed as “the Empress of Soul†— will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, 212 Tusculum Boulevard, here.
She was lead singer of Gladys Knight & the Pips when Motown Records was at its musical heights, from 1966 to 1973. after which she left Motown and signed for a better deal with Buddha Records, where she recorded the classic mega-hit “Midnight Train to Georgia.â€
The seven-time Grammy Award-winner, who now lives in Fairview, N.C., also has recorded No. 1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B and adult contemporary — “and has triumphed in film, television and live performance,’ a promotion stated.
