From Staff Reports
A moderated discussion of David Bowie’s landmark 1972 album, “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars†(often shortened to “Ziggy Stardustâ€), will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 5 at the Asheville Guitar Bar, 122 Riverside Drive, Suite D, in Asheville’s River Arts District.
The Music To Your Ears discussion series program will be led by Asheville-based author and music journalist Bill Kopp, who is the host and moderator of the series.
Kopp wlll be joined in a discussion by Mark Casson, a singer-songwriter-musician with the Cheeksters and Wham Bam Bowie Band.
“We’ll discuss the album, play key tracks from the record and, quite possibly, get Mark to sing and play a few Bowie songs live and in person,†Kopp noted.
Within time limits, the audience also will be allowed to ask questions of Kopp and Casson.
As for the album, Wikipedia stated, “The music on ‘Ziggy Stardust’ has been retrospectively described as glam rock and proto-punk... (Nenad) Georgievski felt the record represents Bowie’s interests in ‘theater, dance, pantongmime, kabuki, cabaret, and science fiction.’ The Library of Congress also notes the presence of blues, garage rock, soul and stadium rock....â€
Seating is limited for the discussion. Tickets at the door are $10.
