From Staff Reports

RALEIGH — A dance duo from Hendersonville on Oct. 22 was awarded second-place silver medals for their performance in the senior division of the North Carolina Silver Arts State Finals Dance Competition.

They danced East Coast swing to “Runaround Sue,” a 1961 classic — and No. 1 hit — by Dion & the Belmonts.

The competition is a component of the North Carolina Senior Games and is open to all state residents ages 50 and older. To compete in the State Finals, one must have won the SilverArts event at the local level and then have been selected as the overall winner for performing arts. The competition was conducted virtually this year due to COVID restrictions.

Earlier in the year, Annino and Skrivanek, who have been dancing together for three years, won first place in the silver competition in Henderson County — and best overall act.
