HENDERSONVILLE — A concert/dance billed as “Russ Wilson’s Big Band Dance Party†will begin at 7 p.m. June 25 at The Center for Art & Entertainment, 125 S. Main St., downtown Hendersonville.
The show will feature Russ Wilson And His Famous Orchestra, featuring Wendy Jones, performing dance music. The venue noted that there will be “stadium seating†and a “large dance floor.â€
Wilson and his band will “take the stage at CAE for your listening and (safe) dancing pleasure,†a CAE promotion noted. “From the young to the young-at-heart, Russ Wilson’s Orchestra makes fingers snap and puts feet on the dance floor!â€
Regarding the band’s musical repertoire, the CAE stated, “Wilson and His Orchestra faithfully recreate the music of the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s — the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and, of course, Glenn Miller.
“The music is further enhanced by the classic vocal styling of Wendy Jones.†the CAE said. (Jones, the featured vocalist with the Asheville Jazz Orchestra, the Page Brothers Gypsy Jazz Quartet, is regularly featured as a soloist with the Carolina Concert Choir, and remains active as a professional jazz vocalist and actor.)
