Among the headliners at the three-day Apple Festival 2008 in downtown Hendersonville were The Mighty Kicks! (above), who performed on the evening of Aug. 30; and Too Much Sylvia (below), who entertained a crowd of hundreds on the night of Aug. 31. The festival is held annually to honor Henderson County farmers’ apple crop, which is the biggest in the state. Besides live music, features included food, children’s games and activities and crafts. The Mighty Kicks!, an Orangeburg, S.C., band, plays soul and funk music, as well as oldies, beach, shag and Motown tunes. Meanwhile, Too Much Sylvia, based in Charlotte, plays a variety of music from the 1950s and ‘60s to today’s top hits. A TMS highlight was a performance by one of its members dressed up as Boy George, clad in his vintage — and surreal — 1980s Culture Club-era outfit. Asheville Daily Planet Staff Photos
