At college campuses throughout Western North Carolina, summer vacation will officially come to an end starting this week.
UNC Asheville will welcome new students this Friday morning. Returning students are expected to move back in on Saturday.
While the schoolĂs new science building will still be under
construction, much of the roadwork that has been going on all summer
will be finished in time for the studentsĂ return.
Some students are expected back at Appalachian State University this
coming Friday and will be moving into a newly renovated dorm fitted
with wireless Internet capabilities.
Furthermore, students at ASU will find the dorms have a new rule: No smoking.
Meanwhile, Warren Wilson College will welcome its 2007-08 freshman
class starting this Sunday. The new students will undergo a weeklong
orientation culminating in a service day Aug. 26 at Carrier Park.
Classes will start the following day with Triad Day, a short school day
followed by at time for new students to choose their service projects
and meet with their on-campus work crews. Every student at WWC is
required to perform community service and work at the school 15 hours
per week.
This Sunday will mark the start of classes for students at
Asheville-Buncomber Technical Community College and Western Carolina
University. Classes at Mars Hill College and ASU will start Tuesday and
Montreat College will have its first day of classes Wednesday. Classes
start at WWC on Aug. 27 and at Brevard College Aug. 29.
