The Daily Planet’s Opinion: Netanyahu’s U.N. speech offered masterclass with sharp pushback against critics of Israel’s security
Sunday, 04 October 2026 12:58

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently delivered a masterclass speech for the ages to the United Nations — a biased, politicized and hypocritical organization that, in our view, unfairly and disproportionately targets Israel.

Observers note that the U.N. General Assembly, on an annual basis, passes more resolutions condemning Israel than against the rest of the world combined. For instance, in 2024, the UNGA adopted 17 resolutions targeting Israel compared to six for all other countries combined.

To our delight, on Sept. 24, Netanyahu delivered what has been described by his media critics as a combative and highly polarized speech to the UNCG. In the aftermath, observers, analysts and politicians offered vastly differing assessments of its impact and content.

Supporters and domestic political allies viewed the speech as a powerful, defiant defense of Israel’s security.

As expected, as Netanyahu walked to the podium to give his speech, dozens of international diplomats staged a mass walkout in protest. Netanyahu immediately targeted those exiting with his magnificent opening line:

“If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall—please do so now. Thank you very much.”

According to reports, key points of praise from his base included the following:

• Decisive leadership: His defense of joint U.S.-Israeli military actions targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities was praised as a necessary, existential measure to save civilization.

• Strong rhetoric: When numerous international diplomats staged a walkout as he approached the podium, Netanyahu called them “moral cowards,” an unyielding stance that resonated strongly with his supporters.

• Direct pushback: Supporters welcomed his direct confrontations with vocal critics, including his denunciation of accusations of genocide in Gaza as “the greatest lie of the century.”

To that, we feel compelled to praise Netanyahu also for sharply criticizing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his speech, calling him an “antisemitic mayor” who tried to silence him and block his visit.

We also commend Netanyahu, in his speech, for rejecting accusations of genocide leveled against Israel by Mamdani and other critics, labeling such claims as malicious inversions of truth.
