Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is making waves again, this time by dredging up the past and settling a few old grudges.
In his new autobiography, ìMy Grandfatherís Son,î Thomas blasts liberal groups, Yale Law School and Democratic senators like Joseph Biden, who opposed his nomination.
The book also rehashes Thomasí bitter confirmation process, in which former aide Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment.
He compares his childhood fear of the Ku Klux Klan to his later
fear of attacks ìby left-wing zealots draped in flowing sanctimony.î
If Thomas were a pop star or even a retired judge, such a self-indulgent settling of scores might be understandable.
But he is a sitting Supreme Court justice. He is charged with
interpreting the Constitution, including ruling in cases that are
likely to involve some of the people he has publicly attacked.
We feel that this is an inappropriate and undignified display
for a person in that position. Perhaps, Sen. Biden was right all along.
