ASHEVILLE, N.C. — As predicted by many, Mike Whatley and former North Carolina governor Roy Cooper each nabbed the win in their respective primaries for the empty North Carolina U.S. Senate seat, the Asheville Citizen Times reported on March 4.

The two will face off in the mid-term election on Nov. 3.

In Buncombe County, 54,875 out of 212,915 registered voters cast a ballot during the primaries this year, according the state board of elections.

Across North Carolina, less than 20 percent of registered voters, 1,505,264 out of 7,664,465, voted in the primary.
