From Staff Reports
GREENVILLE, S.C. — An anonymous 18-year-old local man known as the “Greenville Spiderman” has been patrolling downtown Greenville and recently gained media attention after rescuing two people stuck on a waterfall in Falls Park.
The teenager, who is CPR-certified, monitors an EMS scaanner to help those in need and has said his intention is to protect the city and “spread kindness along the way.”
As for the rescue, on Sept. 12 the teen saw two people who had almost slipped and fallen at the waterfall in Falls Park. He climbed over rocks and was able to pull them to safety before emergency crews arrived, “demonstrating his quick thinking and willingness to help,” AI Overview noted on Sept. 23.
As for his patrolling of the city, the “Greenville Spiderman” can be spotted on patrol, often at night, interacting with residents and picking up litter. He became more active with nighttime patrols following a Lululemon robbery and reports of fights downtown.
To find people to help, he listens to an EMS scanner. When he hears a report of someone having breathing problems, he will go to the scene to assist until EMS arrives.
Also, he engages in activities like picking up litter, checking on people in need, and helping businesses by pulling in signs during bad weather.
Speaking to news outlets, the teen stated his goal is to “help the people of Greenville, protect and honestly spread kindness along the way.”
The teen has gained a following on Instagram and TikTok, where he posts about his activities under the handle @greenvillespiderman.
As for his goal, AI Overview noted, “He states his intention is to ‘protect the people of Greenville’ and ‘spread kindness along the way.’ He is known for his compassionate nature and has been described as a helpful, positive presence in the community.”
