From Staff Reports

The Asheville Police Department is investigating after vandals poured untold gallons of paint to form a rainbow motif on the rock face of Beaucatcher Mountain along Interstate 240 near downtown Asheville.

The APD said that its officers responded to a call around 4:26 p.m. May 15 of people pouring paint from the top of the rocks, often called “the cut,” according to Asheville television station WLOS (News 13).

“The property belongs to the North Carolina Department of Transportation,” News 13 added.

“Photos of the vandalism show streaks of red, orange, green, purple, yellow, and blue paint cascading from the top of the rock face, nearly reaching the bottom,” the TV station reported.
