About 60 people protested plans to build a hotel on city-owned land in downtown Asheville at the “Save the Basilica” rally in front of the Civic Center last Thursday evening, prior to a public meeting on a new downtown master plan. The protesters want the city to keep the land and put a park in front of the Roman Catholic Basilica of St. Lawrence, across Haywood Street from the Civic Center. Daily Planet Staff Photo
