J. Ray Elingburg announced last week that he is withdrawing his bid for a seat on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.
The Weaverville resident and former county clerk of court said a family illness prompted his decision to drop out of the Democratic primary race.
Elingburg’s name still will be listed on the ballot in the May 6 primary, but his votes will not be tallied, Ben Bryson of the Buncombe County Board of Elections said.
