BLACK MOUNTAIN — The Black Mountain Board of Aldermen delayed a vote Feb. 11 on whether to support a recommendation from the Black Mountain Housing Commission to build Habitat for Humanity housing at the Clevenger property off of Blue Ridge Road.
The project would build housing for single families employed by the town or by local businesses. Habitat for Humanity has proposed a deal under which it would provide utilities for a development at the site in exchange for a donation of the land by the town.
Planning Director Elizabeth Teague noted that the cost of bringing
utilities to the development is valued at $22,000 per unit. The
property initially was valued at between $7,000-$14,000 per lot, but
has been discounted to less than $7,000 per lot because of power lines
that run through the property.
The board will meet with the housing commission, and the parks and
recreation department to discuss possible uses for the property.
