WEAVERVILLE — A plan for a 13-acre multi-family development moved a step forward on Jan. 28 as the Weaverville Town Council unanimously voted to hold a public hearing on the proposal.
The project’s developers, Weaverville Partners, LLC, now must notify all residents living within 200 feet of the proposed site, knowns as the McPhail property.
However, the meeting will not be advertised and the developers are not required to notify any other Weaverville residents.
Developers added a few elements since their last presentation to
council in December. The property’s main entrance will now take a
slight curve and a secondary entrance was added to the property’s
southeast side along Weaver Boulevard. An entrance from Moore Street
has been eliminated.
The plans have also been altered for the project’s second phase, which
call for office and retail areas. Five buildings in that section have
been changed to incorporate more green space, according to Clay Moonie,
the project’s landscape architect.
Councilman Gene Knoefel said the developers had been working closely
with council members to adapt the plan and had taken several of their
suggestions.
Town Manager Mike Morgan said that while the developers prepare for the
community meeting, the town’s Planning and Zoning Board will gather to
provide council with an advisory report about the project.
In other action, council heard the town’s annual report from Scott Hughes of accounting firm Johnson, Price and Sprinkle.
Hughes told council members that the town has $7 million in equity and
owes $8 million in debt, which he termed a good debt-to-equity ratio.
