Rev. Graham released after stay in hospital
Wednesday, 05 September 2007 09:58

The Rev. Billy Graham went home to Montreat last Thursday after being hospitalized for intestinal bleeding for nearly two weeks.

Graham, 88, was released from Mission Hospitals, but will have to continue his recovery with physical therapy a few times a week, according to Graham spokesman A. Larry Ross.

Depending on his health, Graham could begin work on a new ministry-focused book as early as this fall, Ross added.
Doctors used cauterization to treat a third intestinal bleed last week.

Grahamís condition was consistent with an arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of small blood vessels in the lining of the colon, doctors said.

After additional evaluation, further bleeding was ruled out, the hospital said.

Graham suffers from a number of ailments, including Parkinsonís disease and age-related macular degeneration. As a result, he has been largely confined to his home in recent years.

Grahamís wife, Ruth Bell Graham, died in June at the age of 87 after years of health struggles.
