From Staff Reports

BLACK MOUNTAIN ó After a series of wild-dog attacks, residents of southeastern Buncombe County were urged to keep their children and pets inside in an alert from the Buncombe County Sheriffís Office this past Monday.

Witnesses described a pack of five wolf-hybrids that attacked at least five dogs in the Shumont Road area, killing two of them,† Lt. Randy Sorrells of the Sherrifís Office reported.

Shumont Road is south of Full Moon Farm, a sanctuary for wild-dogs and captive-bred wolves.

Full Moon owner Nancy Brown denied that the animals were from her sanctuary, and is assisting the Sheriffís Office in its efforts to capture the animals. One dog reportedly was shot dead by a neighbor.

The pack, described as three gray, one black and one white dog, was last seen headed toward Henderson County from the Shumont Road area. The road is off N.C. 9 and south of Black Mountain.

Anyone who sees the pack is being asked to call the Sheriffís Office at 250-4474.
