WEAVERVILLE ó A proposal to allow the sale of mixed drinks within Weavervilleís town limits was narrowly defeated by voters April 24, though a measure allowing an ABC store was passed.
The liquor-by-the-drink proposal, which would have allowed mixed beverages to be sold at restaurants, hotels and clubs, was defeated 309-306, while approval of the ABC store passed 337-279.
The last time voters debated these two issues both plans were rejected. However, some voters said they supported the ABC store proposal because it would mean that Weaverville retains revenue from liquor sales that might otherwise go to neighboring Woodfin, which approved both liquor by the drink and an ABC store last May.
Town Council will now have to discuss how it wants to set up its ABC system.
