Self-described “Hendersonville Pundit” Richard D. Pope must have just recently been mistakenly released from the Henderson County Mental Institution.
Hopefully, the person responsible for the release will be punished justly.
The “Hendersonville Pundit’s” extolling of Jake Pickering’s virtues are indicative that more treatment is necessary.
I haven’t read too much of what he has written — however, that was much too much.
He, Pickering, must just “JACK HIS JAWS” about how bad America’s current leadership is, ignoring the disastrous years of (former President Joe) Biden.
Pickering, the bickerer, suffers the worst case of TDS ever chronicled. One thing is a double set of “JAKE BRAKES (muted, of course) firmly attached to his tongue and lips.
I don’t know much about pedophilia and I’m unsure of just where the “Hendersonville Pundit” is coming from on pedophilia, but even after my comments regarding his state of mind, I think I might partially agree with him on that issue.
Anyone who would foster such behavior upon defenseless children must be dealt with in the harshest manner possible.
First offense should be chemical castration, a lengthy incarceration — and forbidden for life to be alone in any environment with children at any time.
Second offense... life without parole.
And “while ridding the “WHITE ELEPHANTS IN THE ROOM” (aka pedophilia’s) might hurt the child’s delicate psyche,” it won’t hurt near as much as the continued abuse.
And children are much more resilient than we may think.
I believe that when reaching adulthood, they will be thankful that society protected them.

Thank you so-o-o-o-o much for running my guest column on the subject of pedophilia, but you misquoted or misunderstood my final chapters of my guest column.
In the final chapters, I meant to say that the American people have transformed America into a hellish dystopia and have no right to judge pedophiles, nor those accused of pedophilia, or the right to judge anybody else!
I didn’t mean to say that the Daily Planet has transformed America into a dystopia and, therefore, has no right to judge pedophilia.
I said — or meant to say — that because the American people have transformed America into a hellish dystopia, the American people lack the moral authority to judge pedophilia or pedophiles or people accused of pedophilia.
The Daily Planet didn’t do anything wrong!

Civic leader backs $30M in Buncombe County GO bonds
I am Dave Nutter and I am writing in strong support of the $30 million in 2026 Buncombe County general obligation bonds for open space conservation, park and greenway development and the protection of natural resources which will be on the Nov. 3 ballot for voter approval.
I am a community planner and development professional of 50 years experience including 17 in Buncombe County.
I am currently the chairman of the Advocacy and Partnerships Committee of Connect Buncombe, our nonprofit community group which espouses greenways, trails, and multi-use transportation improvements.
We also support Affordable Housing and think it has a strong relationship with greenways.
I am a life member of the American Planning Association and have played responsible roles in the Baltimore Inner Harbor projects, recreation planning for the historic Erie Canal system and Denver’s 16th Street Transitway Mall.
We of Connect Buncombe believe that greenways, trails and open space, carefully designed to fit into our Buncombe County countrysides and towns fulfill many human needs for transportation, health the pursuit of happiness, preservation of our heritage, inclusive social equity, environmental benefit, compatible economic development and fun.
We are working toward a connected system of trails in our beautiful mountainous landscape.
We admire the county’s current planning work and see the careful use of the general obligation bonds as helping our county community, residents, businesses and visitors greatly.

Trump at WH Correspondents’ Dinner? Free press demeaned — not celebrated
That disrupted White House Correspondents’ Dinner should never have been rescheduled.
Since it was a given that President Trump would be there, it was also a given that it would be an embarrassment for an occasion that has historically celebrated press freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.
If Trump were merely an egotistical autocrat — and not a pathological narcissist — he might have had remarks that could resonate about what all attendees had in common: regathering with resilience, saluting the vital role of journalism in America’s democracy and sharing some comic escape at everyone’s egalitarian expense.
Instead, Trump was Trump: an hour’s worth of rambling, all-too-familiar insults from one who personifies media vilification.
He won’t disguise it; he can’t disguise it. His sheer presence demeans democracy; his spotlight to speak means the spewing of insults and mockery aimed at the “fake news.”
Makes you wonder what the sausage-making speech writers confronted.
Not unlike Benito Mussolini’s handlers telling him that arrogantly projecting his chin with his arms folded in front of him was not good optics,
You can’t change Trump. But you can remove this press-freedom enemy from any further “celebration” of a First Amendment guarantee.

Foushee and Ross lauded for voting against Israel
Kudos to North Carolina Representatives Valerie Foushee and Deborah Ross for voting for an amendment to eliminate $3.3 billion in aid for Israel from the federal budget, even though the vote failed 104-314.
Notably, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has stated that he would leave the Democratic Party if it became anti-Israel and did not support Israel’s right to defend itself.
But destroying the means of sustaining human life in Gaza is not self-defense. This includes Israel’s devastation of Gaza’s fields, orchards, greenhouses, water infrastructure and homes.
After the ceasefire began, Israel destroyed an additional 1,500 buildings in Gaza.
Multiple United Nations agencies and humanitarian groups also report that Israel has blocked or severely restricted shelter supplies, including tarps, timber, plywood, and sandbags from entering the Gaza Strip.
Families are forced to live in permanent tent cities, with their makeshift homes infested with rats and parasites.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said, “We are disassembling Gaza, and leaving it as piles of rubble...And the world isn’t stopping us.”
Being pro-Israel should not mean downplaying or denying the atrocities Israel has committed.
Meaningful action, not just words, is long overdue.

N.C. General Assembly thanked for protecting citizens
Thank you, N.C. state legislature.
Your (Senate) Bill 889 to protect citizens from being fleeced by local governments was much-needed.
The absurdly over-inflated property values in the recent reappraisal were an under-handed attempt to raise taxes while shifting the blame to people who don’t have to run for re-election.
We heard a lot of excuses like: “The county has to pay $4 for gas.”
So does the average Joe, but he can’t tax anyone to pay for his gas.
“It’s to pay for Helene.”
“It’s because COVID made people move here.”
Those excuses prove the real reason for the over-inflated values was to raise taxes.
The county’s need for money is a separate issue from the value of real estate.
So it should be treated that way.
The new values had no relation to reality but would have enlarged the tax break slush fund for socialist corporate welfare free-loaders.
If taxes are going to be raised, it should be done by people who can be held accountable in an election.
