America? It’s an ideal, not a brand
Monday, 08 September 2025 05:28

Donald Trump is all about branding.

Always has been — from urban towers and golf courses to steaks, sneakers, coins, bibles, burgers, watches, phones, a “university,” a Miss Teen USA Pageant and a TV reality show.

“Make America Great Again” is not so much a worthy goal or ambition as it is a Trumpian MAGA branding about a fabled past.

America is a democratic republic with ideals and flaws and global impact.

We need to keep evolving into a better version of US, not a retrograde rallying cry of arrogant, protectionist nativism.

Edwards questioned on Israeli spending versus needs in N.C.

U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (R-Flat Rock) is supposedly serving N.C.’s 11th District.

I (recently) contacted his D.C. office and asked:

“Why did Representative Edwards accept $53,000.00 from AIPAC, the American Israel Political Affairs Committee, an organization that serves the interests of Israel, a foreign nation?”

The (Edwards’) staffer stated, “Our legislative team can’t answer campaign-related questions because it would be a violation of the ethics code.”

What?

How could explaining to a constituent why he took $53,000.00 from AIPAC be unethical? What’s unethical is accepting that money, as it has one purpose, to vote in favor of all bills aiding Israel.

Since 2023, the jackals in Congress have passed 24 bills supporting Israel. There have been more bills in the past two years concerning Israel than on any other issue.

Disgusting!

Representative Edwards voted in favor of every single bill.

Shocker, right?

Israel owns him!

Since Edward’s job is to serve North Carolinians, why has he gone to Israel, Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania?

All paid by taxpayers.

Why has he met with Zionist warmongers — (Ukraine) President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy, and (Israeli) PM (Benjamin) Netanyahu?

To ask them how much more taxpayer money and armaments they need?

Did Edwards demand justice for the ten Americans murdered by Israel’s IDF in Palestine since 2023?

Nope. Americans funded Israel’s Iron Dome — $1.6 billion.

In 2024, Congress passed an “emergency aid” package for $14.3 billion. In the Appropriations Defense Bill, Israel was given $500 million for missile defense.

Taxpayers annually give Israel $3.8 billion. Americans have shelled out $320 billion to Israel.

What have taxpayers received in return?

Nothing.

Why are we continuing to pay to defend Israel when they have an Iron Dome and 300 nukes?

Israelis have free healthcare and college. Do struggling Americans?

When will Chuck Edwards focus on North Carolinians’ needs?

Representative Edwards’ D.C. office phone number is (202) 225-6401.

Greenwood parade kerfuffle, gun violence outcry addressed

I couldn’t wait. When I received my copy of the Aug. 20-Sept. 2, 2025, issue of the UPSTATE S..C. DAILY PLANET, I hurriedly began recording my thoughts regarding three (3) articles on Page A1, as if anyone cared, sans myself.

South Carolina’s Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and Greenwood Mayor Brandon (karma karma) Smith clash over the renaming of the annual Christmas Parade in Greenwood, S.C.

S.C. Lt. Governor Evette much prefers to leave it (the parade’s theme) as is, thus continuing the honoring of America’s history; the other wants to change it because it “evoked emotional pain.”

He (Greenwood’s mayor) omitted naming names (most likely, intentional), but it has to do with America phobias.

My response: “Put your heart and faith 100 percent in America or get your rear 100 percent elsewhere, and take Mayor BRANDON  Smith with you.”

Many of today’s politicians are but poltroons — unwilling to defend America’s history hoping to get a free ride in their next election, thus avoiding all issues that would expose their true character. However, voters (lovers of America) will know; “Res Ispa Loquitor” (“Things speak for themselves”).

Most Americans are patriots, and are proud of the greatest nation God ever instituted on planet Earth, standing for the flag, singing spiritual hymns, attending parades, saying thanks to veterans, etc.

Mayor Smith, a poltroon, on the other hand mollycoddling phobic residents (legals and illegals) when he should be telling them to take a long walk on a short pier.

I have included a copy of what befell the Framers of our Constitution. I hope you can include it in this epistle. These pained little wimps need to learn and understand what real pain is.

Paraphrasing Sir Winston Churchill: “Democracy is the worse form of government there is, except for all the rest.”

I’ll bet the farm that those emotional wimps are ignorant of America’s motto: “E Unum Pluribus.” (“FROM MANY ONE”).  If they don’t want to be included in the “one,” why are they here?

We’re one nation under (one) God with one goal, MAGA, and keep it so for all future ages.

If the pained little ones can’t abide that, the only option that I see for them is to self-deport.

We, the law-abiding citizens, will be demanding that our elected officials stop all who would attempt the destruction of our once beautiful cities. Take heed folks — bad behavior is out of favor. For such, consequences will not be liked.

Now for Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice and “Gun Violence.”

I spent six (6) years (from July 17, 1950-Oct. 12, 1956) in the Army. enlisting at 16 years of age. I was in the Armored Corps. I fired weapons so much and instructed others how to use them that my hearing was gone after the first three (3) years.

I never once witnessed a gun firing itself.

We must stop allowing the weak on crime to define/describe problems. They (those who are weak on crime) coin terms such as “Gun Violence” to redirect the real cause of problems away from themselves.

“Gun Violence” sounds more ominous and garners more public interest, than “public officials malfeasance in office” or “dereliction of duty” — and it is.

However,  it lets those responsible for the rampant street crime off the hook. Voters must take responsibility for allowing that to continue.

Incompetent, uncaring elected officials must be replaced AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

If “RECALL” is not possible, then the next election.

A free-but-fair press could — and should be — so unceasingly publicizing such malfeasance that many will resign, but will they?

There is no such thing as “Gun Violence,” only Bad People Violence, Gang Violence, Thug Violence, Crook Violence, and the list goes on and on —  ad Infinitum to ad nauseam.

However, “Gun Violence” in and of itself is not possible.

I would suggest that Spartanburg’s  Mayor Jerome Rice start by following President Donald Trump’s lead.

Clean up Spartanburg. Put offenders in the slammer on first conviction.

I know, I know, the courts say you can’t make them work, but you can darn sure make them wish they had.

Require those eligible to do so... to return to school under strict supervision.

Mayor Rice: Unpunished bad behavior only guarantees more bad behavior.

Fix it while its still fixable, or you will soon be swamped with adult criminals — an alternative that is much more difficult to fix — not to mention the expense of fixing.

NOW FOR AMERICA’S GREATEST MISTAKE ON PAGE #A7:  Mr. (Manuel) Ybarra Jr. — I just wanted to thank you for your excellent letter to the Daily Planet.

step toward peace, reconciliation and cheers to Va. Gov. Youngkin

There he was... Virginia Governor (Glenn) Youngkin “the abject caretaker” of the Confederate Reconciliation Memorial that was illegally removed from Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery in late 2023... and handed over to his care.

Youngkin would, on this day, July 9, give the keynote speech to a facsimile of Republican supporters at the South Carolina Convention Center in downtown Columbia.

The leaders and members of Save Southern Heritage felt that his speech could be an inclusive cornerstone of what had taken place at Arlington.

I must confess that it was not until I had heard and seen the message given to the public in a media interview by the secretary of defense, the Honorable Peter Hegseth, with Governor Youngkin by his side, that those who said that some form of thanks should be expressed to the governor on his visit to South Carolina... and I would concur.

And so, with a large banner of his likeness and a group of us in attendance at the front door of the Convention Center, we would shout “Thanks Governor Youngkin!” — with three cheers to boot — to the throngs entering the center dressed in their finery, like my dear friend the Honorable Ms. Katie Hall, who was a candidate for District 39 House of  Representatives.

Watching and listening to Secretary Hegseth’s message was spot-on for me and “my babies” who we could now conclude that the “men of Trump” had now affirmed that the return of the Confederate Reconciliation Memorial was all that was needed to support the affirmation of the declaration of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hegseth had undone what Warren, Sidule and those who voted to end reconciliation between the North and South had done with the removal of the symbol of reconciliation that President William McKinley had bent a knee before the women of the South to build.

And, supported by the men of the Union Army who watched the former Confederates’ heroic performance in Cuba during the Spanish-American War, which would include that of the 5th Georgia Regiment of former black Confederates (so-called “the Immunies” because of their high immune to smallpox and yellow fever), who remained on the field of battle after the president had removed all of the white soldiers who were deemed unfit to serve because of the disease.

My hurrahs go not only to President McKinley for calling for a symbol of reconciliation with this shrine and something asked for by the Honorable General Robert E. Lee of his men, but also to the women of the South, who finally relented with the memories fresh in their minds of the Union army that carried out the field orders of Lincoln and executed by Sherman, Grant and the likes of Turchin, as they forged through the South, burning, looting, murdering and raping defenseless old men, women and children.

And let’s not forget the 12-year period of so-called Reconstruction — and the evils of the Union League.

Someone would ask of me before the rendering of this report: How do you feel after hearing the message given by Ty Sidule about Secretary Hegseth?

My answer would be: I could care less about anything that the liars Sidule or Warren have to say — and neither speak for black folk. Any man who proclaims to be Southern and would trash the Honorable General Robert E.Lee in a supposed book — like he did — merits my disdain, disgust... and being ignored.

And just like the white Yankee who asked the black woman to get up and go to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Ala., and the thousands of Yankees who donned the regalia of the Ku Klux Klan on the Capitol Mall in 1925 carrying the Stars and Stripes, they (some Yankees) have a history of pretending to be Southern whites and committing all kinds of atrocities against blacks with the intent of dividing and separating us.

I shall do like the Pole Bearers Association and the 100 Black Men of Savannah Inc. championed: ”We shall do all that we can to regain and retain the loving relations and relationships with the Southern white man and shall never ever be duped by anyone not of the Southern soldier!”

The United States Congress ought to regain its honor by not only censoring Warren and Sidule, but it also should rescind everything from that so-called Renaming Commission. God bless you!

Downtown Asheville resident cites evidence that homeless people being bused to city — en masse

In the last week (mid-August), I have noticed a lot of homeless people around downtown Asheville.

It’s really gotten out of control. They're bringing their small shopping carts and large shopping carts. They’re hanging out in the park (Pritchard Park) — despite signs posted all over the park, mandated by the city.

I haven’t walked by the park today because I don’t want to get mad at what I’d see going on there. There’s human waste everywhere.

Last week, there was a lady near my back door. I asked her if she was OK. She had a bottle of Boone’s Farm wine. She also urinated and defecated near my back door — all over her clothes.

I had a friend with me and he said to her kindly, “You’ve got to go!” so we could  get in the back door. She took her clothes off and threw them on the sidewalk and — presumably — put on other clothes and left her old clothes on the sidewalk.

People are sticking their heads — literally — into the water fountains at Pritchard Park. They’re using them to wash themselves. So the fountains and water are not clean. It’s disgusting.

Also, I recently watched someone young — in their early 20s OD (overdose on drugs) elsewhere in downtown.

I was downtown at The Restoration (a swank downtown Asheville hotel at 68 Patton Avenue) last week — and we started (having) lunch (outside) early because it was one of those 90-degree days.

Out in the street, within view of ourselves and fellow diners, were guys running around, cursing at one another…We were like... “What is going on?”

All of our tables were facing Pritchard Park. Next, the tourists were asking us (as locals): “What’s going on?”

We told them they (the homeless people) were being bused in by Greyhound to Asheville because President Trump (recently) made an executive order that if you don’t clean up your cities, you won’t receive federal funds.

So the Greyhound buses started back on August 1. Before that time, they were dropping them (homeless people) off at a gas station on Swannanoa Road — and that’s how (nearby) Wal-Mart got “invaded.”

Now, we’re getting “invaded” downtown. I see around 60 or more new faces downtown every day — all homeless people.

A lot of these people started coming Aug. 1. They picked downtown Asheville, right at the bus stop. So they’re coming up Ashland Avenue.

In a few days, they always come up with a cart from a grocery store in which to haul their belongings.

Most of the aggressive panhandlers only “panhandle” women because they think they can scare some of these women to give them money, so they won’t hurt them.

I recently saw women at a restaurant, sitting outside there, dining, as a panhandler approached them and gave them a “story” — and they gave him money.

"I need money! I need money!” he told them.

Right before that, he tried to stop me at the crosswalk at Pritchard Park. I said, “Don't even ask me. I don’t carry money. I don’t have anything on me. This is the fourth time you’ve asked me.”

In response, he said he “HAS to call his Dad” — and needed cash to make the call.I had my taser inside my right pocket... and pepper spray inside my left pocket.

Then several young women came across the sidewalk and he (the panhandler) got aggressive with them, so the four of them ran across the street — and started looking back, to make sure he wasn’t coming after them.

I can’t make this stuff up. I could show everybody (the photos and videos from) my phone. I can’t believe this.

Tourism now in downtown Asheville? Explore Asheville decided to place banners all over Arthur Ashe Stadium — whoever got to go got their little luxury spot.

So I asked the visitors if they would return to Asheville and the mostly said, “Why would we come to Asheville?”

Tourism numbers right now in downtown Asheville are not too good. And it’s not because of  Tropical Storm Helene. I get sick of hearing that. We got it good for a while. Now, all of a sudden, it’s gone downhill, despite the efforts of the Asheville Coalition for Public Safety.

I hear complaints all of the time from the tourists... I was walking my dog down the street recently and saw a homeless man, sitting there on the corner —you almost couldn’t see him. Suddenly,  a woman — a downtown worker – came up to me... She thought I was a tourist... She told me not to walk over there” near the homeless man, as he is considered potentially dangerous.

Someone might have to send in some outside help for downtown Asheville — the National Guard?

They (city officials) are not doing anything about the homeless problem. Pritchard Park looks like there are 20 people laid up in there. You can tell who’s on meth (methadone).

City Council needs to start working for the citizens of Asheville, in general. There are a lot of people who have told me they’ve emailed council members about the problems I have cited in this letter to the editor.

I think Asheville Councilwoman Kim Roney is behind this. This is what she wants — chaos everywhere.

If City Council won’t do its job, then somebody else will have to do it. It’s not fair. We (Asheville) are too small — with about 100,000 population — to take that many (homeless) people.

I'm telling you that other cities are dumping their homeless on us. This is just like Hurricane Helene — none of us had any warning.

Now this is something that the citizens of Asheville should have been warned about. They’re from all over — from whatever that connecting route is for Greyhound.

I don't blame the APD (Asheville Police Department) or the AFD (Ashevile Fire Department) or the businesses and downtown residents. We didn’t get any warning.

I feel like the mayor and council have directed them to “lay off” the homeless people.

Asheville Police Chief Mike Lamb and Deputy Chief Jackie Stepp have done an excellent job in cleaning up the city, otherwise.

They’re well-respected by a lot of people.

Where is the group BeLoved Asheville? The tax dollars given to them is a lot — and where are they? Why aren’t they telling them (the homeless) to shower?

I think the city thinks its OK for the women, the businesses and others to get harrassed.

They (the city officials) are all hypocrites!
