Rall column headline on Trump called ‘non sequitor at its worst’
Sunday, 04 August 2024 22:41

You (the Daily Planet) doubled down on Ted Rall’s daft column (in the July 3-16 edition) with the headline:

“If Trump Were the Same, but Left, Democrats Would Love Him, Too.”

A non sequitur at its worst.

It’s like rationalizing that “If Hitler, the essence of Jew-hating authoritarianism, were the same but not anti-semitic, the Jews would have loved him.”

Thank you.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The syndicated column by Ted Rall, a political progressive, represents his personal viewpoint — and not that of the Daily Planet as an institution. The headline that the newspaper placed above his column was that which was included with it – and the Daily Planet used that headline, as it, in our view, summarized Rall’s viewpoint as succinctly as possible.

Also, for readers who may not know the exact definition of a “non sequitor,” the term refers to “a conclusion or reply that doesn’t follow logically from the previous statement,” according to the website www.Vocabulary.com.

Military action by Israel in Gaza decried as oppression

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following letter was received just prior to Netanyahu’s address and it is, nonetheless, being published here because of its relevance.
•
On July 24, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress.

Notably, Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, recently voted overwhelmingly against the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In addition, the United Nations’ International Court of Justice just ruled that Israel’s occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories is illegal, and that Israel’s laws violate the prohibition against apartheid.

Over 20 years ago, the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, gave the keynote speech at the “Ending the Occupation” conference in Boston.

Let’s heed his (Tutu’s) words:

“Israel will never get true security and safety through oppressing another people.  A true peace can ultimately be built only on justice....The military action of recent days, I predict with certainty, will not provide the security and peace Israelis want; it will only intensify the hatred.”
