Advice columnist criticized
for comments about meat

The recent column about a woman being unhappy with her boyfriendís desire for her to stop eating animals was titled ìVegetarian boyfriend needs to live, let live.î† Thatís exactly what heís doing by not killing simply to satisfy his taste buds. People who eat meat, on the other hand, support the gratuitous abuse of animals who had no choice in the matter. Thatís hardly a live-and-let-live philosophy. Just like child abuse involves a child who had no choice, eating meat involves animals who had no choice.†

The Advice Goddess suggested that the writer dump her boyfriend, even though the writer stated, ìI agree with him that eating meat is morally wrong.î† When someone cannot get their actions to match their morality, the best advice is for them to attempt to do so. Iím glad the Goddess wasnít around to tell people to ignore their ethical problems with slavery, child labor, etc. The common link between all social atrocities is the dangerous belief that those with power have the right to abuse those without; that might makes right.†

The column was replete with nutritional falsehoods commonly noted by individuals unwilling to give up their desire for flesh. The science is clear that a vegetarian diet is the healthiest of diets. To learn more, visit www.GoVeg.com. And follow the Goddessí advice, live and let live.

Former spirituality writer
blasted for stances on faith

EDITORíS NOTE: The following letter is a response to former Daily Planet columnist Marc Mullinaxís column in the June 12 issue headlined ìA toast to the radical God who likes to party,î which can be read at http://www.ashevilledailyplanet.com/content/view/1156/7/ .
ï
The truth shall set you free. You have finally stated that you are a Christian. There have been many of us that have wondered what your faith was founded upon. I feel that you have wandered off course, because you tell the atheists that you hope their tribes increase. These are the people that do not believe that there is a true and living God.

You say that you are a Christian, but yet you defile the name of God. You used the verse that left out the name of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Your verse: ìFor freedom you have been set free; do not submit again to another yoke of slavery.î Now let us give the living word of God; (Galatians 5:1 (KJV)) ìStand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hast made us free. And be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.î

As a Christian, we are never to be ashamed of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, but yet in the verse you used in your article, Jesusí name has been removed. In America, we have had the truth of our Lord and savior laid at our feet.

You took the story of the ìPeriodical Sonî (sic) and called it ìA toast to the radical God who likes to party.î Did you miss the true meaning of the entire chapter? God was trying to convey; the true meaning of what it is to be a sinner, and the happiness of a lost child returning home. This is a message to one and all; that although, we as children of God may have lost our way; by his grace and mercy; he is always standing with open arms to welcome us back home.

You take such a loving story; of a forgiving father and destroy the true meaning. I must ask you one question; why do you seem so angry with a forgiving God? Read Luke 15-verse 10; this alone will give you the insight to what God would like to make you understand.

You are correct about one thing. We are not on this journey alone; God is always ready to welcome us into his family. To be born again is such a simple acceptance of Jesus Christ. God laid out a simple plain of salvation. We should never forget to share the gospel with anyone that comes across our path. For one day what ever you decide to believe in; there will be a day of a complete awareness of mind; when we all stand before the living God.

And when finally we come face to face with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I would like to say that I have truly enjoyed this opportunity of sharing my faith with you. I have also enjoyed being able to write and share with all the readers that have taken the time to pick up The Daily Planet; this has been a true pleasure. I hope that The Daily Planet will take the time to find someone; that will continue to open up the opportunity to share true faith of the living God in the Asheville area.

Privatization, deregulation
blamed for hurting poor

A little at a time. people are learning to love privatization, or less regulation or free markets or whatever camouflage term the right wing is using.

As usual, the poor are hit the hardest, losing their homes to unregulated loan companies, but in the meantime, the well-off who bought these mortgages are also seeing their profits shrink. And the jokester who has been put in charge of the hencoop (Fed. Chairman) has decided that the market collapse due to interest rate manipulation will be fixed by more of the same. Following 9/11, didnít Mr. Bush say we should all get out there and shop?

Perhaps the best examples are the airlines where unregulated fare schedules and airline carriers sometimes keep planes full of folks sitting on the ground for hours. All of us have lost count of how many airlines have gone belly-up in the past ten years, but some of us can still recall what a good carrier Piedmont was.

Now we learn the pet food from China may be poisoned or maybe the toys. Ah, well, you gotta love ëem. Less Government means less funding for food inspection (too much Government---too many regulations); the people who were displaced by Katrina can turn to the Bush appointee or maybe the head of FEMA for help.

O.K. So the owner of the mine that collapsed in Utah was a big Republican contributor, but we all know without being told that he must have been in favor of regulations. By degrees weíll learn to love de-regulation, but for now, it takes some getting used to.
