Children and adults alike enjoyed painting on a large canvas on Coxe Avenue downtown July 30 at Bele Chere. Officials estimated attendance at the street festival to be 300,000 this year, making it about the same as the past several years. Though events were dampened Friday night by a brief-but-heavy downpour, by Sunday afternoon the sun was out and many families took advantage of the more child-friendly atmosphere, when alcohol sales were prohibited.
