ASHEVILLE, N.C. — An off-duty Asheville police officer who was arrested on Feb. 7 has announced his resignation from the Asheville Police Department, effective immediately, Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on Feb. 26.
Specifically, officer Beau Baley announced his resignation before the conclusion of an internal investigation, according to a news release from APD.
As previously reported, Baley was arrested and charged on Feb. 7 following an incident in which he drove a vehicle on Charlotte Highway while under the influence of an impairing substance, disregarding the rights and safety of others.
“During the incident, Baley’s child, who is under 16, was in the passenger seat unbuckled,” News 13 noted.
“Baley also was accused of urinating in public, although nothing was exposed. As previously reported, warrants state that a bystander stepped in, slipped and fell to the ground.
“According to warrants, Baley allegedly got into two Buncombe County deputies’ faces aggressively and pulled away when deputies attempted to arrest him.
“At the time of the incident, Baley did not have his license on him, and his license was revoked for 30 days.
“Baley was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, misdemeanor child abuse, public urination, resisting a public officer and reckless driving.
“As a result of the incident, he was placed on administrative leave, and an internal investigation began. Baley resigned before the investigation concluded,” News 13 noted, adding that “the APD said that, due to North Carolina general statutes governing personnel matters, it is unable to provide further information on the matter.”
