Woman’s report of rape
triggers police investigation

Asheville police detectives are investigating an alleged rape reported May 23.

A woman told officers that a man held her down by force and raped her when she was at his Sand Hill Road residence, police reported.

The victim and the man knew each other and had stayed with each other previously, police noted.

Leicester man, 36, shot
during W. Asheville robbery

A reported armed robbery in West Asheville left a 36-year-old Leicester man with a gunshot wound in the leg about 2 a.m. May 27 at the Pisgah View Apartment complex, according to police.

According to the victim, two men came up to him between the number 9 and 10 apartment buildings and demanded money, police noted. The men then shot the man once in the right leg and stole his wallet and cellphone.

Man reports failing to elude
armed robbery in Arden

ARDEN — A man said he was robbed at gunpoint shortly before midnight May 26 at a Peacock Lane apartment building, Asheville police reported.

The robber pointed a handgun at him in the stairwell, the man said. When the victim fled, the gunman chased him down.

Man wanted in stabbing
turns self in to authorities

A Candler man who faces charges of stabbing three men downtown in April turned himself in to Asheville police on May 27.

James Ira Milling III, 31, of Kentel Road is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
City police responded to a call about 2:20 a.m. April 27 about a fight on North Market Street. When officers arrived, they found two people on the ground with severe lacerations and puncture wounds. They then found a third victim with a laceration to his neck.

Milling’s bond was set at $600,000.

Police seeking suspect
in armed robbery, assault

Authorities are seeking an Asheville man wanted as the suspect in an allegedly gambling-related shooting that left a 16-year-old boy with a bullet in his back.

Parish Dewight Suber, 19, whose last known address is 12 Tried Street in Asheville’s Shiloh community, faces charges of felony probation violation, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

Suber is described as 5-foot-5, 142 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, officials noted, although he is not known to attack strangers. He is listed as a most-wanted fugitive by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting for which Suber is wanted took place in May. Although police encountered witnesses afterward, they were reluctant to describe what they saw for fear of Suber, according to police.
