Janese Johnson: This holiday season, let's give ourselves a rest from stress

Janese Johnson

With the holidays upon us, I have noticed that the pace everyone is going has been notched up a few times,
and most people are moving faster than the pre-holidays pace. I think that it is very important for us to remember the true meaning of the holidays.

Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are three holidays that are celebrated from now til the New Year. All three holidays are in celebration of miracles that happened.

Kwanzaa is a celebration of the miracle of harvest that occurs every year in Africa. It is a celebration of the African-American culture, and it emphasizes family and community values.

Christmas and Hanukkah are also religious holidays that celebrate miracles.

So, it is a busy time for everyone. Often times, when we are rushed, we find ourselves more distracted while relating to others.

I noticed recently that someone was speaking harshly to a store clerk right in front of me, and when it was my time to be checked out, she was not in her most favorable disposition.

We all have an impact on others, whether we realize it or not. So, with this time of celebrating miracles and sharing the love that came from these miracles, let??s remember the importance of spreading kindness to all people; some people might actually see our kindness towards them as a miracle in their life.

Some do not have family here, or the money to spend on the gifts to give to loved ones, so there is more stress than usual for quite a few people.

Not only is it important to share kindness with others, but also it is as important to remember the most important person in our own personal lives. The most important person in our lives is our own self.

The reason for this is really simple: Without our own self in our lives, our lives would cease to exist, and without others who we love in our life, we would still exist, perhaps a little sadder, but nonetheless, we would still exist.

So, in knowing that you are the most important person in your life, don??t forget to do something really special for yourself during this holiday season. The important thing is that it is a gift of you loving yourself.

Not a material gift, but a gift that celebrates you. Maybe a nice massage, a quiet walk in the woods, a facial, manicure, a quiet bubble bath or anything that makes your soul sing of gratitude.

So, whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukah and/or Kwanzaa, don??t forget to give yourself a little rest from the stress, and love yourself. Happy holidays!
