ROCK HILL, S.C. ó Winthrop University beat UNC Asheville 8-3 in baseball on April 1 to win the series 2-1.
Winthrop scored three runs in the third, and four in the seventh inning to secure the victory. The Eaglesí Josh McDonald allowed seven hits and three runs in 5-1/3 innings to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Meanwhile, UNCAís Rob Vernon finished 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogsí offense. Pitcher Alan DeRatt (2-3) registered the loss.
