HIGH POINT ÇƒÓ Trailing by 21 points early, High Point University staged a comeback to rip UNC Asheville 90-64 in Big South Conference menës basketball at the Millis Center last Saturday night.
The Panthersë rally was keyed by Arizona Reid, who netted 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. UNCA (5-12, 1-2) hit 13 of its first 17 shots to take a 29-8 early lead.
Taking advantage of the Bulldogsë foul troubles, the Panthers went on a 40-3 run over the next 15 minutes to capture the lead and their fifth consecutive win. High Point improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the BSC.
Leading UNCA were Bryan Smithson, with 19 points; Reid Augst, 13 points; and Garrett Moles, 10 points.
Going to the bench with foul trouble during the Panthersë run were Joey Harrell, Moles and Smithson, each of whom had two fouls.
High Point
scored the final 12 points of the first half to lead 33-32 at halftime.
The Panthers never relinquished the lead in the second half, as they
returned from intermission to score the first 14 points.
UNCA briefly closed the gap to 13 points later in the second half, but High Point pulled away to win by 26 points.
