Colonels crush Bulldogs 73-54 for 4th loss in row
Eastern Kentucky University slammed UNC Asheville 73-54 in menës nonconference basketball at the Justice Center last Saturday.
The loss was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs, but a lone UNCA bright spot came from the efforts of 7-foot-1 junior C.J. Walker, who became the schoolës all-time leading shot blocker with his 165th rejection.
EKU
(4-1) outrebounded UNCA (1-4) 43-26 and netted 7-of-10 three-pointers
in the second half. The Colonels held the Bulldogs to 25 percent
first-half shooting. For the game, EKU shot 51.7 percent.
UNCA was led in
scoring by Bryan Smithson and Vincent James, each with 14 points.
Freshman guard Sean Smith led the Bulldogs with six rebounds.
UVa annihilates UNCA
81-64 in 1st-ever clash
CHARLOTTESVILLE,
Va. ÇƒÓ The University of Virginia throttled UNC Asheville 81-64 in the
first meeting between the two schools in menës basketball last
Wednesday night.
UVa (3-0) raced
to a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes and cruised to victory. The
Cavaliers were led by Sean Singletary with 20 points and J.R. Reynolds
with 18.
At halftime, UVa
led 38-22 and went ahead by as many as 22 points with 14:25 left in the
game. The victory preserved the Cavaliersë perfect record in their new
$130 million John Paul Jones Arena.
UNCA, which shot
just 30.5 percent, was led by Bryan Smithson, who was 4-for-15 for 16
points. The Bulldogsë leading scorer was 2-for-7 from 3-point range.
Also chipping in for UNCA were Donovan Jones, 14 points; and Joey Harrel, with nine points.
