BREVARD ó Brevard College picked up its first win of the 2007 football season† as it defeated Chowan College 45-7 on Family Weekend at Brevard High School Memorial Stadium last Saturday afternoon.

Fullback Derek Church made good on his only carry of the game, as early in the second quarter he punched the ball into the end zone from two yards out to give BC a 13-0 lead. The BC touchdown was set up by a 48-yard pass completion from quarterback Colby McCoy to receiver Michael Turner, putting the Tornados inside the Hawksí 10-yard line. Kicker Chase Henry added the point-after-attempt to give the Tornados a two-touchdown lead at 14-0.

However, with 5:40 remaining in the first half, BC would score again, but this time through the air. Quarterback McCoy hit an open Jeffrey Adams who cut through the Hawks secondary and scampered into the end zone for a 47-yard touchdown pass.
The 47-yard touchdown pass was both the first and the longest touchdown pass of the season for BC. Following a successful point-after kick, as the Tornados led 28-0 att he half.

The Tornados added 10 points to their lead in the third quarter as Henry put a 40-yard field-goal attempt straight through the uprights with 8:33 remaining in the third, while Taylor ran for a 10-yard touchdown scurry with 5:02 left to push the BC lead to 38-0.

However, Chowan would not give up as it found the end zone midway through the fourth quarter, when receiver Anthony Hinton caught a 13-yard touchdown pass in the end zone from Brown, putting the Hawks on the board. Following Cory Cline point-after kick, BC lead was cut to 38-7.
