High Point University scored four runs in the eighth inning to edge UNC Asheville 9-8 in Big South Conference baseball play last Saturday at McCormick Field.
Offensively, UNCA (17-26, 7-7) was led by Rob Vernon, who finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Also chipping in were David Williams, with two doubles and three RBIs; and Edmund Locklear, two doubles and one RBI.

ï High Point University scored two runs on one infield hit to nip UNC Asheville 3-2 at Greenwood Field on Friday afternoon.
Alan DeRatt (4-4) registered the loss for UNCA (17-25, 7-6), allowing
three runs on three hits and striking out four batters in 7-1/3
innings. Among the Bulldogsí offensive highlights was Kevin Mattisonís
swatting of a triple (his fifth of the season). He later scored on a
sacrifice fly by Matt Henson.
ï After scoring four runs in the first inning, UNCA held on to beat
Gardner-Webb College 4-2 on April 17 at Greenwood Field. Starter Chris
Nigro, who pitched seven innings, notched his second win of the season
for UNCA.
