GREENVILLE, S.C. ó The Asheville Tourists nipped the Greenville Drive 4-3 in baseball last Saturday night. Sean Jarrett, who hurled a perfect ninth inning, earned his first save of the season, while Asheville starter Josh Sullivan (2-1) got the win.
At the plate, Michael Paul sparkled as he finished 4-for-4 for Asheville (11-6).

ï After jumping to a 6-0 lead, Asheville hung on to beat the Rome (Ga.) Braves 7-5 in front of 912 fans at McCormick Field last Friday night. A highlight was Tourists shortstop Hector Gomezís leaping catch to end the seventh inning, thwarting a comeback effort during the inning in which the Braves scored their final three runs.
Asheville starter Simon Ferrer (1-1) collected the win, allowing five
runs (four earned) on nine hits in six innings. He also gave up four
walks, while striking out four batters. Getting the save was Craig
Baker, who pitched the final inning and allowed two consecutive singles
and a walk to load the bases. Despite the dire threat, Baker finished
the inning unscatched, as he induced a double play and a fly-out to
right field to register his fourth save of the season.
ï Rome scored two runs in the eighth inning to top Asheville 7-5 and
snap the latterís three-game winning streak in front of 1,988 fans at
McCormick Field last Thursday. Trailing 6-4, Asheville scored a run in
the bottom of the eighth inning, but stranded the tying run on second
base when Victor Ferrante struck out. Rome added a final insurance run
in the ninth inning.
ï Asheville nipped Rome 3-2 in front of 912 fans at McCormick Field
last Wednesday. Center fielder Anthony Jackson smacked a double in the
bottom of seventh inning to give the Tourists a lead they never
relinquished.
Jackson finished 2-for-3, with a walk and a stolen base.
In addition, Asheville second baseman Daniel Mayora tied a team record
with four stolen bases, after entering the game with just one stolen
base in 12 games.
Recording the win for the Tourists was reliever
Simone (1-0), who limited the Braves to two hits in three innings. He
also struck out two batters.
ï The Tourists scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to
edge the Braves 6-5 on April 17 in front of 1,417 fans at McCormick
Field. Collecting the win for Asheville was reliever Craig Baker (1-0),
who held Rome to one hit in the final inning.
ï In its first-ever day-night doubleheader, Asheville finished with a
split against the Columbus (Ga.) Catfish, with Columbus winning the
opener 6-2 and Asheville emerging victorious in the nightcap 13-5 on
April 16. The weather was windy and chilly and attendance at the games
was reported at 1,263 and 75, respectively. The second game was added
to make up for a rainout on April 15. In the first game, Josh Sullivan
(1-1) started and took the loss for the Tourists, allowing eight hits
and five earned runs in 4-2/3 innings. Asheville rebounded in the
second game with season-high totals for runs and hits ó 13 each.
Designated hitter Logan Wiens (3-for-4) and right fielder Victor
Ferrante (2-for-4) both swatted home runs and drove in three runs each
for the Tourists. Andy Graham (2-1) allowed four runs on sevens hits in
six innings to earn the win.
