The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees will hold a special called meeting at noon today in 251 Phillips Hall to consider a recommendation to name the universityís Math Lab in memory of Joe Parsons, mathematics professor emeritus.
The meeting is open to the public. Portions of the meeting may be closed to the public under the provision of the North Carolina Open Meetings Act.
Parsons
served in UNCAís Mathematics Department from 1952 to 1980. In addition,
he acted as dean of students and helped shape the universityís first
four-year curriculum. After retirement, Parsons founded a mathematics
scholarship, which provides some $2,500 for students each year. Parsons
died in September 2006.
