Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:09
CULLOWHEE ó David Williams swatted an RBI double in the seventh inning to lift UNC Asheville to a 7-6 baseball victory over regional rival Western Carolina University in baseball last Wednesday.

In addition to Williams, who registered four hits for the Bulldogs, teammate Rob Vernon chipped in a grand-slam home.

UNCA (5-14) fell behind by three runs early, but, with two outs, scored five runs to gain the lead.

Trailing 6-3, WCU (10-7) rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning, on Kenny Smithís three-run home run. However, an inning later, Williams hit for the go-ahead run that secured the win for UNCA.

Reliever Dan Weller, who pitched the final third of the sixth inning, notched his first victory for UNCA.
