Asheville schoolteacher, 28, sets course record in S.C.

MYRTLE  BEACH, S.C. ó Jenny DeWeese, 28, of Asheville, N.C., set a course record last Saturday in winning the womenís open division of the Dasani Half-Marathon, part of the 10th annual Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon.

DeWeese, a teacher at Fairview Elementary School, finished the 13.1-mile race in 1 hour, 17 minutes and 39 seconds. About 3,000 runners competed in the half-marathon.

Last October, DeWeese finished the Chicago Marathon in 2:44:55, placing as the 26th overall woman. Her finish time in Chicago qualified her for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials for marathon.
