UNC Asheville withstood a second-half rally to beat Division II Brevard College 78-70 in menís basketball last Wednesday night at the Justice Center.
In a game in which the Division I Bulldogsí bench scored 50 points, the Tornados cut a 13-point halftime deficit to 51-48 with 12:30 left.
UNCA (8-16) then staged an 18-3 scoring surge, which included eight points from Matt Day, to pull away for the win. Fourteen of the Bulldogsí points were unanswered in that stretch.
With
six UNCA reserves collecting between nine and 27 minutes of playing
time. the Bulldogs top three scorers were non-starters ó Reid Augst and
Day, with 12 points each; and Brett Warner, 10 points.
Leading Brevard (8-15) was freshman Jonathan Whitson, a former Pisgah High standout, who netted 22 points.
