Occam: What is a congressional district?
(Occam refers to “Occam’s razor,” which is a problem-solving principle that suggests the simplest explanation is usually the best.)
Well, let’s go to www.Congress.net (U.S. Congress News And Information):
“A congressional district is a geographic area within a state that elects one member to represent it in the United States House of Representatives.”
Occam: Who do cngressional districts represent?
“1. Representation congressional districts are electoral divisions within a state that ensure fair and proportional representation in the House of Representatives.”
Like a seven-year-old “… fair and proportional representation…”
Occam: Who is responsible for determining congressional districts?
“States are responsible for drawing congressional district boundaries, often through their state legislatures or independent commissions, depending on the state’s laws.”
Occam: What factors are to be considered in drawing congressional districts?
“2. Legal requirements: Districts must comply with legal requirements, including the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits racial gerrymandering and ensures fair representation for minority communities. (Are Republican communities minority communities?).
3. Geographic and Community Boundaries: Redistricting aims to consider geographic features, communities of interest, and natural boundaries while creating district lines.”
Occam: What is gerrymandering?
“Gerrymandering is:
1. Manipulation of Districts: Gerrymandering refers to the manipulation of district boundaries to favor one political party or group, often through the strategic drawing of district lines to concentrate or dilute voters.
2. Effects on Representation: Gerrymandering can result in districts favoring one party over another, potentially impacting the outcome of elections and representation in Congress.”
What does the Supreme Court say about gerrymandering? “Ruling on two cases in which plaintiffs alleged that congressional districts were drawn with such exaggeratedly distorting effects that they violate the Constitution —o ne involving Republicans in North Carolina, the other Democrats in Maryland — the five conservative justices threw up their hands and said that while partisan gerrymandering is a problem, it isn’t their problem.
Chief Justice John Roberts acknowledges that unfair maps are an issue, but says they have to be addressed at the ballot box and in state courts.
In a crushing blow to voting-rights advocates, the Supreme Court today (June 27) ruled that claims of partisan gerrymandering are outside its purview,
An article in The Atlantic written by David A Graham, says, bottom line, the Democrats have been gerrymandering since 1965.
They are all gerrymandered up. Texas is free to draw its Congressional Districts pretty much as it sees fit. This will result in five more Republican seats in the House of Representatives.
An added benefit is that the prep-schooled, ebonics-speaking-tough-witch Jasmine Crocket will be gone and, possibly, the cane-waving Al Green will exit the national stage.
With a national census to be taken that only counts American citizens, it is projected the Democrats will lose upwards to 40 seats permanently in the House of Representatives.
I believe “thank yous” are in order to the Democrat Party. We learned it from you.
Look at the record:
• California: Republicans 39 percent of vote and 17 percent of seats
• Connecticut: Republicans 40 percent of vote and zero percent of seats
• Illinois: 47 percent of vote and 18 percent of seats
• Maryland: 35 percent of vote and one seat
• Massachusetts: 36 percent of vote and zero percent of seats
• Nevada: 50 percent of votes and 25 percent of seats
• New Jersey: 45 percent of vote 27 percent of seats,
• New Mexico: 45 percent of vote zero percent of seats,
• New York: 42 percent of vote and 33 percent of seats
• Oregon: 42 percent of vote and 17 percent of seats,
• Washington State: 42 percent of vote and 20 percent of seats.
It looks like karma is coming home to roost for the Democrats.
•
P.S.: I don’t feel sorry for them. Democrat hypocrisy is appalling, but, it has always been that way. It is one of the few things they have plenty of to offer to the American people.
