Finally, a never-ending road project completed. Was letter to editor the trigger or coincidence?
Monday, 11 August 2025 21:45

I am sure it must be a coincidence but within two weeks of your (the Daily Planet’s) publication of my scathing letter (to the editor) about the never-ending Hendo County road project (North Highland Lake Road in Flat Rock), someone lit a fire under someone — and the road is now officially open.

I wonder if Mr. (William “Bill”) Lapsley (chairman of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners) reads TDP?

The power of the press is still with us!

Unfortunately, when the legacy media is all the  same, we remain stuck on so much.

Sen. Tillis should have sought re-election, at least to rip Trump

“It’s the greatest form of hypocrisy in American politics. When people see independent thinking on the other side, they cheer. But when those very same people see independent thinking coming from their side, they scorn, ostrasize and even censure them.”

That was North Carolina Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, who voted against President Trump’s “one big beautiful bill” — and then announced that he would not be running for re-election.

It’s too bad Tillis isn’t trying to stay in the Senate — even as a primaried long-shot. He could use next year’s high-profile, re-election campaign, even if a non-winner, as a forum to underscore that Trump’s bill — as well as his authoritarian buffoonery — are incompatible with American democracy.

Country-first — not cult-following, bumper-sticker ideology— would be a welcome, independent message.

Officialvreviled for naming ‘hysterical’ Rebuck as Henderson election chair

N. C. Auditor Dave Bolick displayed the height of hubris with his appointment of Linda Rebuck as chairperson of the Henderson County Board of Elections.

Ms. Rebuck’s hysterical requests regarding legislative intervention to ensure that North Carolina goes Republican in the 2024 election implies use of illegal obstruction.

This request, for which Ms. Rebuck was publicly reprimanded, does not bode well for the Election Board chairperson’s ability to ensure an honest election.

The nonsense of (Republican Jefferson) Griffin’s attempt to prevent (Democrat) Justice (Allison) Riggs’ election to the State Supreme Court was enough to make a laughing stock of North Carolina. And nonsense it was... photographs attached to overseas mail-in ballots, contesting 68,000 ballots, etc.

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed in about three months.

I consider last year’s physical arrangements to be a physical fiasco. Traveling to Spartanburg Highway and then to Brooklyn Avenue from the far reaches of the county, then waiting for parking spaces, seeing physically challenged voters ferried in golf carts from their cars, etc. Ridiculous!

The sign-in location was shoulder-to-shoulder. The machines were inches apart. After I voted, I received a nice smirk from the tall fellow standing next to me.

It was a long way from some locations in Henderson County to drive to Hendersonville from home or work to vote.

I do not object to Republicans or Democrats, having been on both sides, as a voter and as an election.

What I deeply object to is an attempt to corrupt an election by any means necessary.

Retired S.C. senator lambasted. Disrespect for ‘genius’ songs by Springsteen? Reflection of fascism Here’s

just one crackpot quote from the (expletive deleted) retired South Carolina Republican State Senator Lewis “his brain is gone” Vaughn’s latest insanely incoherent letter to the Asheville Daily Planet:

“BS [Bruce Springsteen’s] music was/is nothing but eardrum destruction noise…BS would be no match for Charlie Daniel.”

OK, first of all, Lewis Vaughn, you ancient South Carolinian conservative (expletive deleted) — say hello to (expletive deleted) Lindsey Graham while you’re at it, Lewis)... your favorite fat-ass former fiddler on the henhouse roof’s name is CHARLIE DANIELS.

Get your spelling straight, even if you’ll never be (expletive deleted), former state senator.

Jesus Christ, great-grandpa Vaughn, at least learn how to spell your favorite musician’s name. Charlie Daniels must be spinning in his grave in Hillbilly Hell right now because of how stupid you are — not to mention disrespectful of his obese memory.

As far as your disrespect for “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen goes... if Springsteen’s rock music is too loud for a far-right fascist fuddy duddy like yourself, then try listening to Springsteen’s genius — relatively low-volume albums “Nebraska” and “The River” — sometime, both of which are undeniable classics in the American musical lexicon.

And as far as the following truly crazy claim Mr. Vaughn made about (expletive deleted) President Trump goes, give us all a break (most of us aren’t blind, Lewis):

“For his height, DJT [Donald Jagoff Trump] appears to be fit.”

Seriously, Mr. Vaughn? Disgusting Donald is physically fit, you say? Compared to what? A water buffalo? Compared to whom? Former Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert, another notoriously stupid, fat GOP (expletive deleted)?

Maybe that’s why before selling out America to Russia and Israel on behalf of the GOP (Greedy Old Perverts), the tangerine tyrant Trump tried to buy the Buffalo Bills.

The NFL didn’t want an (expletive deleted) owner, though, so America got stuck with traitor Trump instead. At least Bills’ fans are happy.

Can the NFL possibly reconsider their previous decision, and this time offer to trade the Buffalo Bills’ franchise to truculent troglodyte Trump in exchange for the keys to The White House?

Believe me, I’m no fan of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but I’d take President Goodell over President (expletive deleted) any day!

Make that trade for Trump.
