From Staff Reports
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — After a shooting closed the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center to the public on July 21, the center reopened with normal hours on July 26, according to city spokeswoman Kim Miller.
Folowing the Shiloh shooting, Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer and Asheville Police Chief Michael Lamb on the afternoon of July 24 issued a joint statement about increased gun violence in Asheville in recent weeks. (The joint statement appears on Page A1 of this edition.)
“The city is planning to reopen the Crump Shiloh Center tomorrow and be back to regular hours of operations and programming, making it open to the public again,” Miller told the Asheville Citizen Times on July 25.
Additional patrols around the community center will occur “as staffing and emergency calls for service allow,” Miller said.
The center was closed to the public the week of July 22 after a shooting occurred near the property.
“The shooting was the second incident involving a gun at a neighborhood gathering spot in the month of July,” the ACT noted.
In a July 24 news release, the Asheville Police Department said it was investigating its fourth gun discharge in a week after responding to a shooting the night of July 23.
The ACT added “Police reported that three people were shot the week of July 25, all whom were taken to Mission Hospital with serious injuries.”
The center, located at 121 Shiloh Road, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Sundays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays.
