The Daily Planet's Opinion: It’s unacceptable to disrespect our ICE officers, who are risking their lives to protect Americans
Saturday, 26 July 2025 14:01

Regardless of where any American citizen stands on national immigration policies, it is our position that laws must be followed and law enforcement agents must be respected and heeded in order to preserve our system of law and order.

“If you are a good person, you shouldn’t be breaking our laws,” our nation’s stellar DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said during a July 13 press conference — regarding U.S. immigration efforts — in Tampa, Fla.

To that end, AI Overview stated, “Laws establish clear standards of acceptable behavior. They deter criminal activity by setting consequences for violations. Without this framework, society could become chaotic, with unpredictability, conflict and a general lack of safety.”

Meanwhile, Noem warned — at length — on July 10 on “Fox & Friends” of an “unprecedented” threat level against ICE agents, blaming “lies” from Democrats. Her remarks come after an attack on officers in Alvarado, Texas, last Independence Day.

(ICE stands for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. DHS stands for U.S. Department of Homeland Security. “Fox & Friends” is billed as “a daily morning conservative news and talk program that airs on Fox News.”)

Further, Noem lamented that ICE officers are facing ambushes and family kidnapping threats.

Noem also described the “heavy weight” of protecting ICE agents amid growing threats, calling it “unprecedented.” She discussed anti-ICE rhetoric, as agents face growing threats, the latest on the investigation into a shooting at a Texas ICE facility — and more.

Noem was sounding the alarm over what she described as an intense rise in violence targeting immigration officers. She explained the threats against ICE agents were “getting worse” and blamed inflammatory rhetoric from the left.

“Some of these Democrat leaders in some of these communities and states are really, really elevating the emotion out there and lying, and putting these officers’ lives in jeopardy,” Noem said on “Fox & Friend.”

She added, “They are just upholding the rule of law. … It really is unprecedented, this environment that we’re in.”

We urge our fellow citizens to respect ICE because of its role in upholding immigration laws and safeguarding national security and public safety.

And, instead of resorting to threats and violence, those who oppose ICE could/should take their cases to court in a quest for a just resolution.

The DHS secretary urged Americans to support ICE agents during the period of unrest.

“If you know a law enforcement officer, go today and thank them,” Noem said. “Cook their family a meal, go support them, and go talk about it on social media or go have their backs.”
