FLAT ROCK, N.C. — The Flat Rock Playhouse production of the comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong” will open at 7:30 p.m. July 24 on the mainstage, 2661 Greenville Highway, here.
The show will run from July 24 to Aug. 23. Showtimes vary.
As for the show, the FRP stated, “Find your way to ‘the Rock’ as this award-winning comedy takes center stage.
“Welcome to opening night of ‘The Murder at Haversham Manor,’ where the hapless Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’s attempt to stage this 1920s’ murder mystery devolves into madcap mayhem.
“From an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines), the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to survive until their final curtain call.
“Ready to laugh till it hurts? Book your tickets NOW for the show that has been hailed as ‘a gut-busting hit’ by critics and fans alike!’”
“‘The Play That Goes Wrong ‘is a play by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company,” Wikipedia noted. “The story follows a performance of a murder mystery, where the ill-fated theater company encounters numerous mishaps.”
The original production has been running since 2012 in London, where it won Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards. Since 2014, the play has undertaken five tours of the UK, and a Broadway production ran from 2017–2019 and then continued off-Broadway.
