BC detention officer fired after drunken driving arrest following crash of her car

ASHEVILLE — The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office says a detention officer has been fired after being charged with driving while impaired and possession of an open container following the crash of her vehicle, Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on June 19.

In a statement, the sheriff's office said it was informed of Detention Officer Tauqullia King's arrest on June 13.

"After reviewing the circumstances in this matter, the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office has chosen to no longer allow Ms. Tauqullia King to serve at the will of the Sheriff," a June 17 press release stated.

News 13 added, “The sheriff's office said it would not comment further, citing laws regarding personnel matters.”
