“Buncombe County government deliberately polarizing, or just plain ignorant?â€
•
We are writing in response to the article in the Daily Planet regarding Buncombe County leaders prioritizing Helene recovery funds by race.
Aid should be based on need — case-by-case — and not on one’s race.
The purpose of government is to efficiently direct the operation and finances of one county, as well as to unite the citizery toward common goals and respect.
Any decision by one county which places priority of one’s race over another is self-destructive and creates both anger and animosity.
Hurricane Helene was a huge tragedy for all of us in Buncombe County.
Hurricane relief for homeowners and businesses was poor, at best, the idea that government would deliberately pick and choose in such a situation was abhorrent!

Oh, Elon, whatcha doin’, bro? Your data mining needs to stop!
I’m outraged by Elon Musk’s accessing the personal data of Americans that we’re required by law to turn over to the Treasury Department.
Who is policing what he’s doing with this vast storehouse of information ripe for data mining?
Is he putting together a new mailing list for Tesla’s next “Cybertruck†release, hopefully less ugly than the first one?
Seeing who has the money for a Space X spring break on Mars?
Is he selling it on the dark web? Who knows?
Those who’ve dared to challenge him, the federal security guards who did their job of trying to stop his minions from accessing a secure room inside USAID without proof of proper security clearance, got “put on leaveâ€(which sounds suspiciously like a prelude to termination) for their trouble.
I find it deeply ironic that I can’t go to a new website to buy a pair of socks without having to click on seven different options to acknowledge the website’s privacy policy and limit their use and storage of my private information, like my very secret sock size, but First Lady Elon Musk can roll around in the private information of American citizens, like my Social Security number, address, income, tax payments, bank information, etc., etc., just because he’s the president’s buddy.
That just doesn’t make any sense. And it needs to stop.

Some of you sick-in-the-head Republicans actually said it would make no difference whether or not an adjudicated rapist sex offender like deviant Donald Trump became president of the U.S. again.
Well, surprise!
Racist right-wingers were just making fascist fools out of themselves like usual.
Delusional Donald is, without a doubt, the most corrupt, criminal, low-IQ idiot ever to be president. And that’s really saying something — remember George W. Bush, who now seems almost intelligent by way of comparison with dimwitted King Donald.
“We’re going to take it,†says Don the Con in reference to the Palestinian Gaza Strip. Wow, that’s some real big talk from a real big orange buffoon like Trump, the plump chump who, of course, was far too cowardly to serve when he was called to do so.
For a confirmed coward and whiny weakling, Trump sure likes to play act being a tough guy like he’s on some sort of new military-themed reality TV show. But if reality is what Trump wants, he can get it, because we can give it to him.
Just keep talking, traitor Trump, about how much you and your evil Israeli war criminal puppet master Benjamin Netanyahu love mass-murdering Arab Muslim and Christian civilians in Palestine, then call for the completely unjustifiable American military occupation of Gaza flippantly claiming, “We’re going to take it.â€
And then just see what happens next, you crazy colonists — and I’m not just talking about the utterly insane, illegal Israeli colonial settlers.
Any American who follows these obscene orders from corrupt criminal billionaire real estate developer Jared Kushner (via Orthodox Jewish Jared’s wife Ivanka Trump’s perverted daddy Donald) needs to be sent to the funny farm for a lifetime stay, while held securely in a padded cell in a straitjacket!
Invading Iraq twice — unsuccessfully — under Rapepublican rule was crazy enough — not to mention the GOP’s total failure in Afghanistan, but the U.S. illegally occupying Gaza on behalf of the right-wing Judeo-Nazi rogue state of Israel after ethnically cleansing it on behalf of greedy, bloodthirsty Jewish supremacists?
Hell no, we won’t go! Speaking of Hell, Trump will burn there.
Allow me to be the one to tell that psychotic 78-year-old Satanist Donald Trump what the rest of you know is 100 percent true, but are too afraid to say openly: Karma is coming and the big payback is on the way! If you think Palestinians are simply all just going to die now and acquiesce to the ethnic cleansing of the land that rightfully and legally belongs to them just so the greedy, incestuous Trump Crime Family can build a country club on the Mediterranean, then stay tuned and watch what happens to the Orange Antichrist and his horrifically stupid Hell spawn.
And, as a writer, I will — of course — be keeping tabs on which fascist Trump thug gets “taken care of†next, when, and how — for your personal reading pleasure.

Trump’s appeal to national sovereignty? It’s hypocritical
President Donald Trump states that the U.S. will use its naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to house criminal migrants “in order to halt the border invasion, dismantle criminal cartels and restore national sovereignty.â€
How self-righteous to use national sovereignty as a justification for detaining migrants on a naval base that is maintained on another nation’s soil, and against the wishes of that nation.Regarding Guantanamo Bay, Cuban President Miguel DÃaz-Canel in 2023 wrote:
“Cuba reiterates its just claim for the return of that territory, whose use currently constitutes a violation of national sovereignty, an affront to the principles upheld by the Cuban State and its people.â€
Donald Trump’s hypocrisy is further evidenced by his threats to the sovereignty of Canada, Mexico, Panama and Greenland.
In his inaugural address, Trump asserted, “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world.â€
Arrogance and bullying will not engender respect and admiration — only anger and resentment.

Poor U.S. seniors shouldn’t beforced to live in nursing homes
Did you know that physically and cognitively heathy senior citizens who cannot financially afford to live independently are forced to move into nursing homes, even though it is a premature placement because — both physically and cognitively — these seniors arre not ready for a nursing home or assisted living facility.
Decades ago, the late (Hendersonville) Times-News columnist Stephen Black and I agreed that it is fundamentally wrong for America’s seniors to have to relocated into a nursing home or an assisted living facility — if they were neither physically nor cognitively ready to... simply because they can’t afford to financially live independently in their communities any longer.
American’s should be supported financially by their federal and state governments, so that they can financially support living outside a congregate living facility in their home and community until they are ready for a nursing home or assisted living!
Stephen Black and I, at that time, also discussed how cold-blooded it is for society to protect and shield autistic kids from sensory issues, but then cold-bloodedly — when they get old — lock them up and throw away the key ... and imprison them in a nursing home with no escaping constant noise and hustle and bustle and a busy environment with florescent lighting and flickering lights and constant and chronic sensory overload and sensory meltdown.
But in our country, money is the bottom line.
And reform is futile!

Newspaper accused of ‘damage control’ by running goat story
Looks like you guys had to do a little “damage control†at the ADP after my letter berating Ms (Polly) Angelakis for doing nothing to speed up the lake recovery (at Carl Sandburg Home NHS)?
Of course, the goat barn is a big draw esp for kids, and good to reopen since Sept. closing, but Sandberg Swamp remains with no end in sight.
Too bad you didn’t get a statement from her on why the dam is still busted in situ.
